New tobacco company trademarks in 2026: four filings reviewed

Short answer: UK IPO journals verify NOVA for JT International and ALPINE, VISTA and TRUE BONDS for companies in the Philip Morris group. All four are in class 34, but only NOVA's goods specification expressly lists oral nicotine pouches. None of the records proves that a product has launched.

NOVA is the only clear nicotine-pouch signal

The NOVA record appeared in Trade Mark Journal 2026/016 and its goods specification includes “oral nicotine pouches for use as a tobacco substitute, not for medical purposes”. Nicotine pouches are therefore a verified part of the protection sought. The record says nothing about formulation, market, launch date or whether the name will ever be used commercially.

ALPINE, VISTA and TRUE BONDS also cover class 34. The class is broad and can encompass cigarettes, snus, e-cigarettes and heated products. A tobacco company filing a class 34 name is not sufficient evidence that it is preparing a nicotine pouch brand.

Names that did not meet the verification threshold

The research list also included RAZE, ONELO, EVOK, RIVO and RIFT with claimed links to major tobacco groups. At the 21 October 2026 review, our evidence file contained no official record that simultaneously established the name, applicant, number, class and status. They are therefore not published as verified company filings.

This distinction matters. A name may exist in another jurisdiction, be an image mark, belong to an unrelated applicant or have an older history. Its absence from this controlled list does not prove it was never filed. It means the claimed relationship is not documented well enough for publication.

Four statuses that must not be conflated

  1. Published application: an official journal has published the record for opposition or further processing.
  2. Registered right: a later legal status that requires a separate current-register check.
  3. Commercial product: verified product information or a launch exists.
  4. Active market: the product is sold or distributed in a specified market on a specified date.

This article supports level one. It makes no general claim about levels two through four.

What the pattern may mean

Our assessment NOVA is the most relevant signal for the nicotine pouch industry because its specification is explicit. The three PMI-related names show class 34 activity, but their broad wording makes it unreliable to assign them to a particular product format. Register monitoring provides early signals; it does not replace product verification.

Status date: 21 October 2026. The data describes published UK IPO journal records. Current final status and commercial use must be checked again before later reporting.
