Breaking Through the Noise: The Fast Product Turnover in Nicotine Pouches
In 2025, 278 new product variants launched on a single Swedish e-commerce platform for snus and nicotine pouches. That same year, 139 products were delisted. Getting a brand onto the shelf isn't the hard part anymore — staying there is.
The turnover, in numbers
According to Snusrapporten 2026, published by Snusjournalen in collaboration with Snusbolaget, Snusbolaget.se offered 95 different nicotine pouch brands in 2025, 14 of them entirely new that year. At the product level the movement was even bigger: 938 different product variants were sold in total, including 278 new introductions — while 139 products were delisted from the range.
Over the full year, that means roughly one in three variants in the range was either new or gone within the same twelve months. The report sums it up itself: the high product turnover shows a market in constant flux.
A full shelf, a crowded top
Even as the range widens, sales concentrate hard at the top. Per the same report, Velo held a 28% market share in nicotine pouches online, Zyn 15% and Loop 14% — together just over half the category. That leaves the remaining roughly 90 brands sharing about 43% of sales.
2025 was also a year in which several established brands made bigger changes to their own ranges rather than simply adding new products alongside them: Swedish Match renamed XR and ONE to General, Göteborgs Rapé and Catch, and ZYN rolled out a broader update to names, design and strengths under the ZYN 3.0 banner. The same year saw new brands like Zone and NUED appear in stores. The churn is happening on several levels at once: new challengers, new variants from established brands, and rebranding of what's already there.
Why so many products disappear again
Our interpretation E-commerce has lowered the bar for listing a new flavor or strength — but it hasn't lowered the bar for building repeat purchases. A few likely explanations for the high delisting rate:
- Novelty drives traffic, not always loyalty. A report that itself names "innovation and e-commerce" as growth drivers points to new products as a way to keep the range interesting for returning visitors — but that's not the same as every new variant building a stable customer base.
- Range reviews happen regularly. A variant that doesn't reach a certain sales volume risks being cut at the next review, however well it was received at launch.
- Breadth within a brand competes with itself. The more flavors and strengths a brand launches at once, the more both marketing budget and shelf space get split between them.
A current example of breadth: CUBA has announced 19 new products for the end of 2026 in one go – six Ice Edition variants, five new White and five new Black flavours, and three new Ninja flavours, according to UK retailer Snus Boys. Each of them will face the same range reviews. We go through the Ice Edition’s claims in our article on product innovation.
What it means if you manufacture or own a brand
The takeaway isn't to launch fewer products, but to plan for the fact that most of them won't become permanent:
- Budget for a real delisting risk in year one. With a delisting rate of this order, a launch needs clear sales-volume targets and a plan for what happens if they aren't met — not just a launch plan.
- Concentrate rather than spread thin. Fewer variants backed by stronger marketing have a better shot at reaching the volume needed to survive a range review than many variants each backed by a thin budget.
- The concentration at the top is the goal, not just the competition. With three brands taking just over half the category, strategy is as much about building lasting distribution and visibility as it is about the product itself — a theme we build on in the next article, on availability.
We help build that plan — see product development and market, channels and data.
